A detailed review of the process of sulfur recovery was discussed. The EUROCLAUS® process increased sulfur recovery of the conventional Claus process significantly and involved the introduction of selective reduction of SO2 followed by selective oxidation of H2S directly into sulfur in the last reactor stage. The exothermic heat of reaction from oxidation of H2S to sulfur vapor resulted in a temperature rise of 70 °C per 1 vol% H2S. The temperature profile through the catalyst bed at a high inlet temperature and at a low inlet temperature was also shown.
