By choosing PEC as the assessment parameter of the shape design, shape optimization of corrugated tube at laminar flow has been investigated through genetic algorithm. The results indicate that, the optimized corrugated tubes are asymmetrical and its crest move to the downstream relative to center, the shape of the optimized corrugated tubes is a function of Reynolds number. The heat transfer enhancement, the flow resistance and the PEC augment with the increase of the corrugated length; With the increase of the period length, the heat transfer performance of the optimized tube is slightly weakened, the flow resistance is increased, and the PEC is reduced. It is also found that there are optimized corrugated tubes which have better heat transfer and flow characteristics than smooth tubes when the Reynolds number is small. © 2019, Science Press.
