Grey cast iron with pearlite structure is utilized during manufacturing the brake disks of automobiles. Chemical composition of the grey cast iron of Gh 190 grade has been presented. Structures and properties of various cast irons have been investigated. Various types of graphite in the cast irons have been described. Experimental investigations of the cast irons have been performed. Results of the investigations make it possible to determine the best cast iron. It is noted that increase in content of sulfur in the cast iron to 0.08 percent leads to decrease in wear of brake disks.
