The technologies involved in color printing were discussed. Internal drum technology, external drum technology and a modified form of the scanner principle were utilized for exposing plates by use of a platesetter. Internal drum devices mainly use polyester plates, and are suitable for high quality, short run applications. External drum technology was judged appropriate for the exposure of thermal plates. The systems were required to be reliable, capable of being serviced and supported for a long duration. Silver, violet, polymer or thermal plates were supported in the near future.
