Acousto-optical devices are capable of processing digital and analog signals. A theory of transmitting information through acousto-optical devices developed earlier is extended to the transmission of analog signals. A resolution criterion based on the requirement of transmitting a required number of signal gradations with a specified reliability is studied. It is shown that the acousto-optical equation in which the number of resolvable points is defined as the time-bandwidth product must be modified for the case of transmitting signal gradations.
