This article discusses the four tenets of designing pressure vessels—corrosion management, hydraulic performance, media optimization, and maintenance and operations—and their relation to optimizing PFAS removal. Enlisting strong specifications, computational fluid dynamics software, and piloting, engineers can influence pressure vessel lifespan, cost of ownership, and ease of operations. Leveraging a career in activated carbon vessel design, the author explains pressure vessel design steps that ensure the least complex and most cost-effective outcome. © 2024 New England Water Environment Association.
