Fabrication of Al2O3-TiB2 porous ceramic matrix composites by combustion synthesis

Effects of reaction thermo-kinetics, green density, diluents and compound combustion on porous system and microstructure of Al2O3-TiB2 porous ceramic matrix composites prepared by combustion synthesis have been investigated. It was indicated that proper diluents addition and compound combustion can be greatly helpful for the formation of porous structure. With increasing the diluents content, the pore size is decreased. The compound combustion can decrease the reaction ignition temperature, which is beneficial for the in-situ reaction and the generation of porous ceramic matrix composites with uniformly distributed pore size and small dimension aperture.
