Steganographic attacks: The new frontier of Malware?

Nowadays, modern malware can perform attacks while remaining unnoticed for long periods. Recent investigations reveal that this behavior exploits techniques rooted in the ancient discipline of steganography. Thus modern threat can exfiltrate information and coordinate attacks through the network in a stealthy manner. Unfortunately, malware also use steganography to bypass some security mechanisms deployed within devices. In this perspective, the paper investigates the main techniques used by malicious software to avoid to be spotted either by the victim or by security tools.
