The construction of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge over the James River in the US is discussed. The memorial bridge, which costs approximately $111 million, is a part of the Pocahontas Parkway project. The bridge is the second-longest cast-in-place span in the US. The designers have selected cast-in-place concrete-haunched twin cell boxes cast in balanced cantilever to achieve the required great length of the span. The construction company are facing various problems such as accomodation of ocean-going ships, compliance with seismic requirements, and river and vehicular traffic control during construction work.
