A novel microwave cavity for gas cell rubidium frequency standards is designed. With loop-electrode inductance-capacitance structure as the core, the structure of the microwave cavity is simple and therefore can be machined easily. It has a microwave mode proper to induce rubidium atomic transitions, and it is convenient to adjust resonance frequency. A physics package with this is developed, and a short - term frequency stability of 2.2 × 10-12/ root τ is obtained. The result shows that the cavity can be used in high performance rubidium frequency standards.
