(R)-(-)-Carvone, the main constituent of spearmint oil, has several synthetic applications and is used in cosmetics, food, and pharmaceutical preparations. In a recent study we demonstrated that (R)-(-)-carvone shows significant analgesic activity. In the present report, (R)-(-)-carvone derivatives which have pharmacological potential are described. These compounds can be used in studies of structure-activity relationship to develop novel drugs. © 2010 Verlag der Zeitschrift für Naturforschung, Tübingen.
