After a century of activity by the Transportation Research Board and others, transportation is experiencing several technological revolutions driven by research performed over multiple decades: 1. Alternative fuel vehicles, such as battery electric, hybrid, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, are available commercially and becoming more common in the vehicle fleet.
