Based on the mechanism of effervescent atomizers and the theory of ultrasonic atomizers, a new atomizer, ultrasonic-effervescent atomizer, was developed. In this atomizer, a reed is used to produce ultrasonic to control the stability of two-phase bubbly flow in the mixing-chamber of the atomizer. The test program primarily includes the distribution of SMD at different air/liquid mass flow-rates, the influences of the length of the reed and the diameter of the liquid orifice on the mean drop size. In this paper we also discuss the conditions of syntony between the reed and the liquid jet. When the frequency of the reed and that of the liquid jet are the same, they will be sympathetic vibrations, and now it can strengthen the atomization performances.
