A novel sensorless direct torque control scheme based on extended Kalman filter for electrical propulsion system was proposed. In order to calculate propeller's characteristics, a simplified regression function calculating thrust coefficient and torque coefficient was given. In order to solve the instability problem by the basic direct torque control, a new direct torque control method based on load angle restriction was elected. The simulation results of Sino-rail Bohai No.1 show that proposed method can estimate the state variables accurately and improve the performance of the direct torque control of inner permanent magnet synchronous motor.
