Vibration band gap of a special rod of phononic crystals

In order to solve vibration attenuation problems of a multi-bar structure occurring commonly in engineering, the concept that phononic crystal has a unique vibration band gap was introduced, phononic crystals bragg T (PCT) rod was constructed. Based on the wave equation, the theoretical derivation and numerical calculation for the characteristics of in-plane and out-of-plane vibration band gaps of a PCT rod were performed with the transfer matrix method. The results showed that the transformation of elastic wave form in a PCT rod makes band gaps coresponding to various waveforms contribute to vibration suppression, the vibration reduction frequency bands are widened, furthermore vibration in any direction can also be attenuated. Thus, a PCT rod was a kind of good damping elements to meet the demands of multidimensional broadband vibration reduction in engineering.
