An overview of the optical properties of nanoshells is presented. As the shell thickness is varied on a dielectric core of constant size, the optical absorption shifts quite sensitively as a function of shell thickness. Keeping the core/shell size ratio constant but varying the absolute size of the particle determines whether the particle resonance will absorb light or scatter it.
