Sizing of aerosol nanoparticles with differential mobility analyzer (DMA) leads to unavoidable errors due to two phenomena - Brownian diffusion and the space-charge field created by the charged particles. The effects of electric space-charge on the voltage shifts in tandem DMA was examined using aerosol populations with different total particle number concentration. Space charge affected the classification performance of DMA when the number concentration of charged particles exceeded a certain critical value.
