NiO nanobelts with high aspect ratio and dispersive distribution have been synthesized by a hydrothermal reaction of Ni(NO3)2 6H2O and Na2C2O4 in the presence of polyethylene glycol (PEG). The products were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The gas sensing properties of the as-prepared NiO nanobelts toward ethanol were investigated. Copyright © 2015 American Scientific Publishers.
