Internal stress is a key feature of electrodeposited coatings, whose influence increases with deposit thickness. However control of such stress is relativeiy difficult, given that the effect of various species on internal stress is not fully understood. Taking saccharin as a case in point, a chemical often added as brightener, the effects of its concentration on stress is reported. Internal stress was measured, in this case, using the strip dilatometer technique.
