Soil resistivity measurement: Two-layer model, proposed revisions to IEEE Standard 80-2000 and IEEE Standard 81-1983

A discussion on Sunde's two-layer soil model simplified by graphical method, shown in IEEE Standard 80-2000 and steepest descent method described by IEEE standard 81-1983, was presented. In the modified Sunde's method, the parameters ρ1 and ρ2 were obtained by inspection of resistivity measurements and h was obtained by plotting a graph of apparent resistivity versus pin spacing. All three parameters ρ1, ρ2, and h in the steepest descent method were calculated with assumption of initial values.
