For the modern deep sea ships and ocean platforms, dynamic positioning system is an indispensable supporting system. This paper presents a design of dynamic positioning control system based on Ethernet technique. The development work of control system for the cable laying vessel 'Feng Yang Hai Gong' is also given. The performance of the control system is validated in practice by experimentation with a model ship scale 1:13, and this work also contributes to the implementation on the full-scale ship. ©, 2015, China Ship Scientific Research Center.
