摘要
Since automated fabrication techniques for composite parts like tape laying and fibre placement are both expensive and limited, a system has been developed utilising robots for speed and accuracy. Labour costs are discussed using traditional methods. Precision Feed Endeffector (PFE) technology for commercial robots is described, and eight aspects associated with the lay-up regime are listed. The system concept is explained and it has been designed to accommodate commercially available material, both dry or prepreg, the dimensions of which are noted. System components are described - material feed system, take up system, profiling (cutting) system, waste extraction system, reactivation system (optional), active suspension system and UV curing. Applications are covered, and the robots can be incorporated within cells or systems such as gantries. Industries such as the marine, aerospace, automotive, high speed rail, semi trucks and trailers, telecommunication systems and wind energy systems can be served by this technology. The functions undertaken by robots are described. Control and programming methods are included and calibration discussed.
