The parallelization procedure is described for the implementation of transboundary air pollution models on the CRAY T3E caomputer at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim, Norway. These air pollution models have been developed at the Meteorological Synthesizing Centre-West (MSC-W) in Oslo. Analyzing the obtained speed up characteristics one can find methods for the optimization of the program. In particular, some reordering techniques for the array indices and further splitting of the arrays lead to better cache usage, resulting in more than four times faster execution of the code.
