An algorithm of the maximum likelihood and an optimal algorithm of detection of a rectangular optical pulse with unknown moments of appearance and disappearance are synthesized. The potential reception characteristics are determined as a result of statistical modeling of the synthesized algorithms. The obtained results enable to reasonably choose a detection algorithm depending on available a priori information and requirements for hardware or software algorithm implementation.
