The state-of-the-art of the studies on reinforced concrete column-steel beam (RCS) hybrid joints including beam-through-type and column-through-type is reviewed extensively. A new type of reinforced concrete column to steel beam (RCS) hybrid joint with favorable seismic performance and practicable details is developed. The concrete in joint core is encased by steel plate assembly and embedded with bi-directional stiffening webs, which can largely enhance the shear capacity of joint. A bolted connection between steel beam and reinforced concrete column can be adopted, thus the beam can be replaced when it suffers severe seismic damage. Drilling holes or welding studs on stiffening webs can be adopted to enhance the shear transferring capacity between the stiffening webs and the concrete. Finally, expectations on its seismic behavior and design methods are raised.
