Ventilated cavity can greatly decrease the drag of an underwater navigating vehicle. It is important to maintain the shape of the ventilated cavity to be steady. Thus the inner flow structure of the cavity and its interaction with the gas leakage pattern need to be investigated. In this paper, the inner gas flow field structure of the ventilated cavity induced by a flat plate was studied by the PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) method. Three typical types of the inner flow field structure were concluded. The velocity tendency of the gas flow was also given. © 2016, Editorial Board of Journal of Ship Mechanics. All right reserved.
