Pretreatment of wheat straw using deep eutectic solvents and ultrasound

Testing of new solvent systems is the great challenge in the field of green chemistry. Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) represent the principles of green chemistry and are relatively new topic in science. This article describes various deep eutectic solvents, which were used for pretreatment of biomass. Wheat straw was treated with five different DES systems based on choline chloride with lactic acid (1:9,1:10), malonic acid (1:1), oxalic acid (1:1), malic acid (1:1) and urea (1:2). VJe have been dealing with finding the efficient solvent for lignin isolation from wheat straw. The application of ultrasound to fibers proved to be a method suitable to break the fibers and to improve their accessibility to DES. The application of ultrasound pretreatment significantly helped to obtain more lignin from wheat straw fibers. The use of larger fibers has a great importance in the preparation of commercial technology.
