摘要
Academic tenure and promotion decisions typically involve judgements about quality and generally require authors to publish in peer-reviewed venues. Even though peer review is known to be imperfect, it remains a widely accepted quality assurance mechanism. Nonetheless in recent times attacks on traditional peer review have come from multiple sources, including concerns about effectiveness, calls for open peer review, and predatory publishers. The panel will discuss these and related issues. Copyright © 2018 by Association for Information Science and Technology
