Several pulp producers including International Paper (IP) and Pope & Talbot, are announcing their plans to increase prices for the softwood kraft pulp in Europe. IP has plans to raise prices for southern bleached softwood kraft (SBSK) pulp by $20/tonne to $740/tonne from March 1, 2007. Pope & Talbot has also planned to increase northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK) pulp by $30/tonne to $790/tonne from April 1, 2007. Weyerhaeuser is also looking to increase its levels by $20/tonne in March, 2007, which would take SBSK to $7240/tonne. Bleached softwood producers inventories raised from 25 days in December, 2006 to 27 days in January, 2007, but most suppliers are expecting socks to be declined in near future. The differential between eucalyptus and NBSK prices, which stands at $80-90/tonne, is also expected to get wider by a $20/tonnes in coming months.
