The first part of the paper provides a brief description of the useful mineral deposits and resources of Romania as well as the continuation of the mining and processing of the raw mineral materials in the country, since the ancient times and until today. Further on the present organization of the mining activity and the existing processing and production capacities and the dynamics of the labor force from this economic sector are described. The final part of the paper presents the restructuring measures taken in the mining industry in Romania and the mining perspectives in future.
