The bilinear bäcklund tranformation (BT) for the Toda lattice was derived from the Darboux transformation. A modified bilinear Bäcklund transformation was used to obtain novel solutions for the Toda lattice. The BT was modified to obtain N-soliton solutions and to limit solutions. The BT has close relations to the inverse scattering transform and conservation law and also has some different forms, which helps to fine multi-soliton solutions.
