In view of the construction difficulty and complex stress state of boundary elements, a method using steel fiber reinforced concrete in boundary elements is proposed to improve the seismic performance of shear wall. Combined with test results and finite element numerical simulation, the influence of steel fiber volume ratios and aspect ratios is studied on the bearing capacity, displacement and ductility of this kind of shear wall, which are comparatively analyzed with the corresponding seismic performance of the overall steel fiber reinforced concrete shear wall. The results show that the utilization of steel fiber reinforced concrete in boundary elements can desirably improve the bearing capacity and ductility of shear wall structures, especially in which the displacement ductility can be increased by 102.8%. Compared with the overall steel fiber reinforced concrete shear wall, the shear wall with steel fiber reinforced concrete only in boundary elements is of great economy without sacrificing bearing capacity and ductility. © 2016, The Editorial Board of Journal of Basic Science and Engineering.
