An intelligent CAD/CAM system for progressive die (CAMSLS) is presented. In this system, integrated information model of piece-part, which is based on feature and knowledge, has been described in the object-oriented way. With rule-based reasoning, case-based reasoning and artificial neural network, the judgement of the blanking-part validity and the process reasoning of single feature have been realized concurrently during the modeling process. The automation of blanking layout has been implemented. The results of mold design, together with the drawings and NC codes, are achieved based on the techniques of case-based reasoning and parametric standard mold parts database. In this paper, integrated product information model, blanking layout and the design strategy of die structure are presented individually in detail. The advantages of the CAMSLS system are pointed out.
