Slag resistances of four typical magnesia-based chrome free refractories including MgO-ZrO2, MgO-MgO · Al2O3, MgO-MgO · Al2O3-TiO2 and MgO-MgO · Al2O3-ZrO2 and MgO-Cr2O3 brick for RH lower vessel were comparatively researched. The slag corrosion is mainly caused by the corrosion reaction between the refractories and the penetrated ferric oxide, CaO, SiO2 and MnO constituents of slag. Because of the high refractability of calcium zirconate (CaO · ZrO2) formed by the corrosion reaction between ZrO2 in MgO-ZrO2 refractories and the CaO in slag, MgO-ZrO2 refractories have better slag resistance than that of the other magnesia-based chrome free refractories.
