Silicalite-1 films were prepared by steam-assisted crystallization of spin-coated precursor solutions on Si wafers, glass and stainless steel supports. A clear Silicalite-1 precursor solution was diluted with methanol, ethanol, 2-propanol or 1-butanol prior to spin-coating. The coated supports were transferred to 200 mL autoclaves and heated at 150°C for 3 days in the presence of 0.2 g water. The Silicalite-1 films obtained were characterized by SEM, XRD and ATR-IR. The morphology of the film crystals was influenced by the alcohol used as well as the type of the support. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
