According to the different noise variances in received signals of the two consecutive time slots, a training-sequence-aided minimum variance unbiased (MVU) channel estimation method is proposed for single-carrier frequency-domain equalization (SC-FDE) based amplify-and-forward (AF) cooperative communication over frequency-selective fading channels. The mean square error bound on the proposed method is derived and the optimal training scheme with respect to this bound is also given. In addition, Chu sequences with the optimal power allocation is chosen as training sequences to achieve the estimation performance bound without increase of peak-to-average power ratio and with easy realization. Simulation results confirm the performance of the proposed channel estimation method in SC-FDE based AF cooperative communication scenarios and the superiority of the derived optimal training scheme. © 2012 Binary Information Press.
