Barium borosilicate (BBS) glass samples incorporated with 6.8-28 wt.% of ThO2 have been characterized by small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) technique. The samples contain smaller crystallites of average radius in the range 9-14 nm. Variation of the crystallite size with dopant concentration shows a significant increase in the value beyond about 23 wt.% of ThO2 and a maximum in the polydispersity. This increase in sizes is probably due to the agglomeration of smaller particles occurring leading to the phase separation of crystallites from BBS matrix noticed in the earlier study. © 2007 Elsevier B.V.
