The confrontation between Weyerhaeuser Co. and Willamette Industries was discussed. Weyerhaeuser, with annual sales of $16 billion, was more than three times larger than Willamette, with annual sales of $4.7 billion. Weyerhaeuser's purchase of Willamette would create a $20 billion-plus annual sales company. The new combined company included 58 hardwood and softwood sawmills, 23 engineered wood products plants, 17 plywood plants, 10 OSB plants, five MDF plants, several dozen pulp, paper and packaging plants.
