Numerical simulation of roll forming a complicated steel section

Based on the finite strip method in the structural analysis, the Updated-Lagrange method (U. L. method) in solid mechanics finite deformation theory is employed, and an elastic plastic large deformation spline finite strip model is established to simulate the roll forming multiple process of a complicated steel section. The deformed characteristics of the strip are analyzed, and the deformed space surface, the distribution of longitudinal membrane strain and the membrance stress are got. The calculation examples prove that there is large deformation on the corner and the edge part of the deformed strip, and the peak longitudinal stretching strain is on the edge part of the deformed strip ahead of the rolls. In addition, along the rolling line direction, increasing the distance between the edge and the central line of the deformed strip increases the deformation.
