Due to rapid and frequent changes of the business and technology environment surrounding the World Wide Web, software development in Internet-based ventures is exposed to specific requirements regarding products, processes, and personnel. This article features a discussion of these specific requirements and presents three alternative paths that characterize changes in the software development behaviour during the growth of Internet-based businesses. © Springer-Verlag 2007.
