In this research, variational iteration method and homotopy perturbation method are applied to solve a nonlinear fourth order boundary value problem. These problems used as mathematical models in viscoelastic inelastic flows and deformation of beams and plate deflection theory. Comparison is made between the exact solutions and the results of the Variational Iteration Method (VIM) and Homotopy Perturbation Method (HPM). The results reveal that these methods are very effective and simple. In this survey, it will be shown that these methods can also be used for solving nonlinear boundary value problems. © 2008 Asian Network for Scientific Information.
