A series of SBA-15 supported H3PW12O40(PW) catalysts were prepared and characterized. PW crystal phase was not observed in XRD patterns at PW loading as high as 60%. PW dispersed on the supports retains its Keggin structure, but a strong chemical interaction between PW and SBA-15 supports is present. The activity of the catalysts can be adjusted by varying PW loading. PW/SBA-15 catalysts are promising mesoporous solid acid catalysts for medium strong and weak acid-catalyzed reactions.
