Whirley Drinkworks significantly cut colorant costs by updating presses with multi-component Plastrac blenders. The company had invested in a new feeding and blending system, which allowed the processor to make much more judicious use of color. Color was a key component of Whirley Drinkworks' product line, with its molding business focusing on consumer packaging. The company started Phase 1 of a seven-part program to install two- or three-component Plastrac blenders on all of its presses. The company was able to accurately and consistently let down the color to 1%;, and in some cases to 0.7-0.8%;, after installing the Plastrac blenders on all of its presses. Whirley Drinkworks was able to cut colorant costs by 25%; by switching to the Plastrac blenders.
