Collaboration and sharing are elements in the foundation of a successful KM system deployment. Since such systems are seldom part of an organization's culture, the overall KM plan must include a change management program that emphasizes collaboration and sharing. Such an approach can delay deployment by more than a year. Furthermore, when results are slow in coming or metrics are disappointing, this initial step can derail the entire KM initiative.
