ZSM-5 membranes are successfully prepared on α-Al2O3 tubes coated with seeds by hydrothermal treatments. The seeds are introduced by direct polishing or dip-coating. It is found that the times of hydrothermal synthesis can be reduced. ZSM-5 membranes are prepared on supports featuring 0.6 μm pore diameter by only one synthesis step. Membranes are characterized by XRD, SEM and pure gas permeation measurements. The results show that they are dense and integral. The ideal selection factor of H2/C3H8 is up to 33, which shows the properties of molecular sieving of membranes.
