Effect of the different pre-rusted methods on the atmospheric corrosion behavior of carbon steel

Atmospheric exposures for three kinds of carbon steels polluted in H2S, SO2 and NO2 (10-6 concentration) at Shenyang exposure site in China over 4 months were made. Mass gain results are reported. The effect of the initial stages of the corrosion of polluted carbon steels was analyzed on the later corrosion behavior of three kinds of carbon steels. The conclusion can be drawn out that mass gain varies with different pretreatments during the course, different pretreatments have different effects obviously on the samples at the initial days, but the corrosion rates of the different pre-rusted carbon steels are almost the same after four months.
