The possibility of transverse corner cracking in slab of peritectic carbon steel is greater than that of other carbon steel. The main operation and equipment with respect to transverse corner cracking were introduced. A series of measures, including the improvement of cooling conditions of liquid steel in mold and strand in second cooling zone and the reduction of stress in solidified shell, have been implemented for the past few years so that the occurrence of transverse corner cracking has been greatly reduced.
