Premartensitic states in the ferromagnetic Ni-Mn-Ga alloys

The high temperature phase (L21 Cu2MnAl-type structure) of Ni-Mn-Ga (22-32at.%Mn, 20-25at.%Ga) alloys undergoes a thermoelastic martensitic transformation upon either cooling or elastic deformation. The structural changes as well as the anomalies displayed by some physical properties in the temperature interval which precedes the martensitic transformation have been observed. The longitudinal magnetostriction (Ε) was measured in an austenite and martensite, Ε shows a strong growth when the temperature approaches Ms.
