Fabrication of Hydrophobic Micro-structured Polymer Surface Using Efficient Micro Injection Molding

Aiming at the efficient molding fabrication of micro-structured polymer components, the diamond grinding wheel is used to precisely grind the V-shaped groove array structures on the surface of titanium silicon carbon ceramic mold core in this work, and the micro-structures on the surface of the mold core was replicated on the surface of the polymer workpiece by micro injection molding process, which can realize the mass and manufacturing of micro-structured polymer components. The effects of different micro-structure sizes on the surface hydrophobicity of micro-structured polymer were studied. The results show that high precision and efficient molding of micro-structured polymer components can be achieved through micro grinding and micro injection molding technology. The contact angle of micro-structured polymer workpiece surface decreases with the increase of V-groove spacing. When the depth of V-groove is 150 μm, the contact angle can reach 123.19°. The higher the surface quality of micro-structured polymer workpiece is, the better the surface hydrophobicity is. © 2024 Cailiao Daobaoshe/ Materials Review. All rights reserved.
