The hot spot programs of Verizon Communications at the phone booths of New York City, to provide Wi-Fi access to its digital subscriber line (DSL) customers, is discussed. Of the 700 access points deployed by Verizon in Manhattan, 420 are active while the balance await power connection. The hot spot receives about 115 hits per day in total, with about 20 first-time users logging on daily. It is observed that with this, there is a high degree of customer satisfaction, but the deployment issues are a lot more than expected.
